Organizational Report: Ivory supports the goal is quick turnaround

Mobile Kevin Towers' rings non-stop these days.

It no longer requires congratulations to become director of the Arizona Diamondbacks the new year.
These calls are strictly business.

Towers and let it be known that almost everyone in the list is available.

"I want to turn this thing around as quickly as possible," said Towers, who led the San Diego Padres and four Division titles and one National League pennant with a 14-year term as president. "We can win here, and I'm not confident five-year plans in the plans for six years.

Report from the Group: Group of the Arizona Diamondbacks page[Offseason] expectations: a layered regulatory reporting.

"Talk and talk, but I want to assure you that I will do everything in my power with our partners in the game of baseball operations staff to stand atop the NL West and go back to playing baseball championship, and this is what motivates me, and this is what drives me. "

Arizona went 65-97 last year, which followed the 70-92 season in 2009, giving the Diamondbacks Thurs the 1st row last slots.

"During the past two years, we fell behind early and were out of it by April," Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall said. "We can not do it again, it is very important to have a good start."

I think they made the necessary Diamondbacks front office moves, to replace Josh Burns, who was dismissed from the position in July, with the towers standing as president.

They removed the interim status of the Director of Kirk Gibson and gave him a two-year contract $ 0.1300000. They surrounded him with veteran coaches like Baylor without Alan Trammell.

They have five former players on the All-Star coaching staff, including Matt Williams, Eric Young, Charles Nagy

"I think we have done everything very well from the field," Hall says, "Now the challenge is to make it on the pitch we have a new beginning It's up to us ..."

The first system of business, Towers said, is to rebuild the free dictionary. Towers says he will not extend his hand to free agent Trevor Hoffman, with the closest towers when he was general manager of the Padres. If Hoffman is ready to sign a reasonable contract, "said Towers, said he would consider closing in 2011.

Hoffman, saving each time leader, was 2-7 with a 5.89 era with the Milwaukee Brewers last season.

"I've always been a lot of faith in the building to the rear, from the earliest down to the junior sector," Towers says. "Put together a free dictionary extreme, for me it's more weapons, not just authentication.

"To me, you must have 5-6 guys who can pitch in the seventh and eighth innings, and the ninth hitter, or to the east between the system and be able to get a strikeout."

Towers also wants to strengthen the bench, adding veterans. Began signing veteran utilityman Jeff Bloom.
"It's hard for young men to be effective pinch hitters coming off the bench," said Towers. "If you do not have the experience or that these men who are threats, it makes it very easy to director of exhibitions, because it has no fear of the one that comes on the bench. "

Force Diamondbacks' starting rotation is, with many young people like Daniel Hudson, 23, Joe Saunders, 29, Ian Kennedy (25 years), Barry Enright, 24.

They want to add a veteran writer. Brandon Webb, who was limited to one game in the last two seasons because of shoulder issues, is a free agent.

"The market is starting pitching is weak to a certain extent this year," said Towers. "For me it's minor league free agents and trades. It is more likely to find this man via trade in exchange for Agents Key Free University."

Will be the biggest Diamondbacks' transportation expenses are free to be the first base. They refused first baseman Adam LaRoche $ 7,500,000 option.

And to follow up and the first free agent Paul Konerko Basem and Derek Lee. It is not known, but if any player would take a drastic pay cut to play in Arizona.

"I do not think we like a person away from being the team to beat in the West," Towers says. "But I do not think it will take a long time to get this thing right."

Ivory in which he appeared to stand on each position: Are you looking for a snack in the lineup

Find a man in his daily life Diamondbacks Miguel Montero. Cleared the way for Montero to pick up every day when they traded Chris Snyder for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. Montero hit .266 with nine homers and 43 RBI in 85 games while on the game tough opponents in a row.

First base

Help Wanted. The Diamondbacks got what they want from Adam LaRoche, who scored 25 homers and drove in 100 runs, but not the exercise of $ 7,500,000 option. Paul Konerko of the local product is a free agent, but do not know if it fits in with the price tag of about $ 6 million. Former Chicago Cubs / Atlanta Braves first baseman Derek Lee in the market potential free agent, too. The only internal candidate is the real Brandon Allen, but it may end up as the everyday left fielder. Can be baseman Paul Goldschmidt for the first time in the future. He won a high award for best player at California State University, hit 35 homers by slugging .606.

Second Base

The Diamondbacks got a nice pick-up free agent in Kelly Johnson. 26 wounded homer and had a great .865 OPS (on base percentage plus slugging). They plan to bring him back for at least one year. Tony Abreu, who were relegated to the Grade AAA Reno during the year, is a solid backup, along with Bloom.

Third base

Mark Reynolds and 76 homers the past two years, but also a barrage of putt, and he was defeated by 638 times in his first three seasons full.

He became the first player to be less of a putt, hitting .198 with 211 strikeouts. And can choose Reynolds Diamondbacks trade and access to a veteran to replace him in anticipation of development opportunities for Matt Davidson and Borch Call Bobby, who probably two years away. Could be a temporary replacement for Bloom.

Baseball

Stephen Drew has established himself as one of the finest young people from all parts of the shortstops in the game of baseball. Defense was outstanding last season.

Although he was wrong offensive, and he finished with a .278 hitting average with 33 doubles and 15 homers. And will be supported by Abreu and perhaps a veteran defensive specialist. If the Diamondbacks want to trade ground to set up, they have a top baseball prospect in the system in Owings Chris of the 2009 draft.

Diamondbacks have a spot open for anyone to take. Can work or go to Allen to anyone outside the organization. The use of such Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra and IV.

Cole Gillespie also has a variety of tools and can fit in the picture. Could be a fielder Mark Krauss privilege the rest of the future. Batons and home runs in 18 272 of the bat after the All-Star game in the Cal League.

Chris Young bounced back nicely that there is a season all-star. Hit .257 with 27 homers and 91 RBI while playing Gold Glove-caliber defense. It's certainly a dramatic turnaround from the 2009 season when he hit .212 with 15 homers and 42 RBI, which included a reduction in the Renault.

Caused the patient's shoulder Justin Upton, who hit .300 with 26 homers, 86 RBI and 20 steals in 2009, he misses more attacks. A.J. Pollock was, and the Diamondbacks' first-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2009, and wounded more than a year, but was strong in the autumn of the University of Arizona.
Beginners

Gold, Daniel Hudson, was taken from the Chicago White Sox in the trade for Edwin Jackson in July, 0.7 to 1 with a 1.69 era in 11 starts and the Diamondbacks could be a staff ace. Proved the former New York Yankees writer Ian Kennedy in a strong start, going 90-10 with a 3.80 era. Arizona Joe Saunders, were retrieved from the Los Angeles Angels in the trade for a three-time All-Star Dan Haren in July. Barry Enright made a fine impression, going 6-7 with a 3.91 era in 17 starts.

There are rising stars in Jarrod Parker, who has come from elbow surgery on Tommy John, along with Tyler Skaggs.

Can be up to Parker the big clubs this summer, Skaggs, was taken from the Angels in the Haren trade, is probably two years away. On the left side Wade Miley into the picture, gives a 1.98 era in 13 starts after being promoted from AA A high class.

And will be ready by 2012.

Diamondbacks relievers can say that the worst in baseball last year and is expected to be a couple again. Righties Juan Gutierrez, and Sam Demel DJ Carrasco and potential returns.

The Diamondbacks claimed Seattle Mariners sincere concessions Brian Sweeney. Diamondbacks are also interested in restoring a veteran writer Mike Hampton, who also struck in relief to Arizona in 2010. The rest of the free dictionary, towers can say, be in full.

Closer

Diamondbacks looking. And given the opportunity to Aaron Hillman and Gutierrez is used at the end of the season. So far, and if they can find like a veteran closer Trevor Hoffman for the right price, and they will hand over the reins.
